UNESCO World Heritage: Erfurt Old Synagogue in a matchbox

The Old Synagogue Erfurt kit is a tribute to the Jewish-medieval heritage of Erfurt, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2023. The Old Synagogue is considered the oldest synagogue in Central Europe preserved up to its roof. The side view shows the museum's most distinctive windows and consists of 10 pieces of local wood. The miniature is painted with child-safe wood paints and packed in a matchbox.

About the landmark

The Old Synagogue is considered the oldest synagogue in Central Europe preserved up to the roof, with its oldest parts dating from around 1094. After the pogrom of 1349 it was used as a warehouse, later as a dance hall and restaurant, and so fell into oblivion. Since 2009 it has been a museum displaying the Erfurt Treasure.
