About the landmark

The Old Town Hall stands in the middle of the river Regnitz, on an artificial island between two bridges. According to legend, the bishop refused to give the citizens a plot of land, so they drove piles into the river and simply built their town hall there. It is famous for its painted façades. Bamberg's old town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993.
