About the landmark

Above Erfurt's Cathedral Square stands the Petersberg Citadel, one of the largest preserved baroque city fortresses in Central Europe. It was built from 1665 onwards; the Romanesque St Peter's Church of a Benedictine monastery had stood on the hill since the 12th century.
